Solicitor Problems

Hello,
Hoping that you can give me some advice on what I can about this. We are meant to be completing on friday and we were due to exchange early this week - she has copies of signed contracts etc - just waiting to do the actual exchange. I phoned solicitor on fri and told she would call us back that day - she didn't, I called again on monday - same story and have called again today and no call as yet. She did this last week with a query I had and only called my back 5 days later when she needed me for something. I don't know what to do or where we are up to - my partner has booked 2 days off work and hired the vans ready and we don't even know if its going to go through.
Any advice? She seems to be taking me for a ride, she knows I am only 19 and trying to manage both the sale of my house and purchase alone.
Thanks

I would go down to her office and say you are going to wait there until you see her and mean it. This is the only way. You are her client and you are paying her you should not be going through this extra stress at this already time. I expect that she is taking advantage of your age but don't let her. Good luck

  • I agree that going to the office is a great idea. Try not to go in 'all guns blazing', but simply tell the receptionist that you are going to wait until you see someone that will answer your questions. You can bet that you arnt the only one this solicitor is like this with!
    Good luck.

You could also try ringing your buyer or your seller to see if they know what's happening.

    Thankyou for all the replies.
Sods law- she rang 10 mins after I wrote this topic! I have had my concerns cleared up , still not happy with how long it took her to contact me but completions still on for friday and exchanging tomorrow so hoepfully by the end of the week we should be all done with her!
Going to her office would of been tough anyway - she is over 2 hrs away as I got her on recommendation (!!!!) from a family friend.
    Thanks again!

My advice is just keep chasing - solicitors have many other matters to handle at any given time and yours may not be at the forefront of her mind. If you keep hard on her back, she is more likely to prioritise your matter.

Don't feel apprehensive about doing this - you need to look after number 1 and she has a professional duty to act in your best interests.
