Rotten Turkey!

Well, at beginning of the week I bought a fresh turkey to use today for family as we were having dinner elsewhere yesterday.

Opened the fridge door this morning and was struck by the smell, opened the bag & nearly passed out. 'Fortunately  ' our Tesco was one of the ones open on Boxing Day, so I went down to exchange. I'd also bought 2 packs of diced chicken breast to use on Xmas Eve and one was bad, so already had kept reciept.

Took turkey with me  . In front of me at CS was a couple doing exactly hte same thing. They had opened theirs yesterday morning and it was bad - same packaging.

Can't fault Tesco's - we were both immediately given £50 on a gift card, along with a refund of Turkey money (they also gave me double value for my chicken).

I went round the store to pick up something else, but no sign of turkey, whole chickens or anything like that. Got a frozen something instead (feels safer after all that bad fresh stuff!).

Guess I probably wont' be going back to Tesco's for turkey next year!
Now proud Mumto3 :j

should take this further and look into this more, people can die from food poisoning. this goes against all health and saftey regulations. plus it spoiled your xmas for your family, a special occasion that happens only once a year.

i would also like to add that i once had food poisoning and was in hospital seriously ill for 11 days, it took weeks to fully recover, i was pregnant at the time and i went into premature labour, fortunatly my son is ok.
  • After advice from a neighbour (some 30 years ago) who was a butcher, we always get ours from the local farm who produces them.

Must admit though, Mums face was a picture the year I told her you could not get fresher - it was still warm when we collected it on the 23rd.

  • Can't beleive this! Also happened to us last year. Bought a turkey crown from Tesco on Dec 23rd - use by 27th. Loads of time I thought. Opened on 25th and almost passsed out by smell! Also greenish silvery tinge which didn't look too good! OH had to drive miles to his sisters to get some turkey for us. Tesco good at refunding price on boxing day but no compensation for inconvenience. DONT BUY YOUR TURKEY FROM TESCO!!!!

  • There was another thread over on the vent board about a turkey that was off. Don't think the OP mentioned where the turkey was bought though.

I always get mine from the local butcher boned and stuff and I don't think it is that much more expensive than buying from a supermarket.
