I went to JL Kingston today and bought the 40V4000 for £499. I was checking out the prices as I had seen the RS leaflet.
JL price matched it WITHOUT the paperwork to fill in as I took along the product code kindly given on the other thread and they found it online.
Del to me Fri 2nd :T
My advice, if you want to get one, is to order it online as there is a 20minute queue to even get to see a SA instore and the queues are huge!0 -
You obviously didn't buy a 40" Toshiba Regza then - it's a 2 man lift!!I bought an LCD TV because I am but a weak and feeble woman and I can actually lift it and carry it myself!!You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
is it so wrong for people to but a new tv if they want and can afford it???0

I had a nightmare in John Lewis Liverpool today. Got there at 9.05 went to TV department and gave them the product code for the Sony KDL40v4000 TV which showed on their site at £499 to be told we dont price match our own site and the shop price was £599. I explained that John Lewis in Manchester price matched their own site on a Hp laptop at the Trafford centre yesterday and the manager said it wont happen here.
I then walked to Richer Sounds and confirmed they had the same television in stock they had 2 left and phoned John Lewis Liverpool to price match. They stated that they had already telephoned Richersounds and that they had been told they wont be gettong them for 2 more days I explained that I was in the shop looking at 2 and offered to give her the shop number to confirm. This is the good part she said that the price match team would only phone on Monday to confirm the price. When I explained that by then the stock would have been sold the reply was - in that case you will not meet the conditions of our NEVER KNOWINGLY UNDERSOLD policy as the item has to be in stock !!!
I cannot believe John Lewis can weazle out of their own price promise by having a team that does not work on a weekend to check the price and if the store has it in stock.
Not to be put off I rang the John Lewis order line to be told that they were having problems ordering televisons online and to call back later. Yes you guessed it when I checked back the TV had been removed from the site and returned at £599.
Any idea who I should complain to at John Lewis as clearly the manager in the TV department couldnt care less.
Very fustrated and annoyed0 -
HI, Ive just come back from JL in Liverpool One and after seeing the tv in store for £599 i asked one of the sale assistants to ring the local branch of Richer sounds to see if they had stock. After ten minutes the lady returned to say they had one in stock so she would price match the £499, the man behind me who was also interested in this deal also got one after watching the events. So its still possible to do this but by the looks of things it seems to be which member of staff you get.
Collect mine from Speke warehouse on 30/12/08
The lady I dealt with was from the area singposted with Sony products and the TV is on display in this area, good luck

Thanks I have since found out others had been sucessful in price matching at the Liverpool store on this tv. I have sent a complaint into JL and will wait for their responce. Was is very disappointing is that mum was looking forward to showing off her new TV to the relatives this weekend who afterall had given her the money for the both of them to enjoy it. I couldnt face asking her to walk back to try a face to face price match.HI, Ive just come back from JL in Liverpool One and after seeing the tv in store for £599 i asked one of the sale assistants to ring the local branch of Richer sounds to see if they had stock. After ten minutes the lady returned to say they had one in stock so she would price match the £499, the man behind me who was also interested in this deal also got one after watching the events. So its still possible to do this but by the looks of things it seems to be which member of staff you get.

Just think - all these people buying £500 lcd tellies to impress the kind of people they want to impress will be putting their superior CRT tellies on Ebay or whatever - a few days from now we'll all be able to pick up really good kit for a tenner!
Jealous 'cus you can't afford one?0 -
is £599 still a good price for this as bought one in a local sams yer man today for £599 as got 18m interest free credit0

Why would you complain to JL?? They will tell you to get stuffed (but in a very polite way obviously).
I would complain to Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Authority. The phrase "never knowingly undersold" is obviously a blatant lie, as posters above have proved, so make a formal complaint to TS and ASA and copy in JL.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
I worked for JL for a very long time and they do price match however there are very strict and specific rules which they stick to. They don't price match to internet prices (they've had that rule for years) and they don't have staff sitting about who can run all over town at a minute's notice at their busiest time of year to check out every single customer's claim. Not many shops would even attempt to try and offer this service.
Their retail staff are there to be on the shop floor serving customers and they have separate staff to do undersales checking. In the past I've been told that I would have to wait for somebody to check the undersale for me, but they've always checked it and come back and matched the price eventually, then lowered the shop price to reflect it.
People still want to buy from them because they offer a 5 year guarantee on TV's and in the current climate they're a better bet for being around in 5 years time to fulfill that than a lot of retailers I can think of.
Complaining to Trading Standards or the ASA is a waste of time - it's not a blatant lie - it's an offer with restrictions (like pretty much every offer you see on here - read the small print). I've heard all this before as this policy has been about for years.
Actually out of any retailer I can think of you stand a better bet by complaining to them because they have a goodwill policy which often means they let customers get away with a LOT.0
