Could someone confirm that it's a good buy and it's HD ready as well?
    Thanks

I bought this a few months ago and heres the good and bad points:

    Good
Compact, good zoom, easy to use, plenty of recording space, can record on micro sd card

    Bad
Not High Definition so picture quality average, the video files are are saved as a .mod file and will not play on windows media player (you will need to use software to convert it to mpeg or avi), supplied battery doesnt last long

This is still a good price for an average camcorder

I did a Google from which I found the software (PowerDirector) should come supplied to convert files to MPG or AVI. Can you confirm that?

I also read something that suggested simply renaming a .mod file to .mpg could also work. I'm not convinced on that but perhaps somebody could try it out?

Renaming does work but if you have a lot of the files, you either have to create a batch file to rename the lot in one go or use a software like Win AVI Video converter.

  • Hi ppl ive been trying to get my hands on one of these camcorders for the past three days but its out of stock everywhere. The jvc mg330 which comes on blue and red was retailing at £163.69 at currys, dixons, and pc world ,with £30 cashback from jvc .I planned to purchase it from one of these retailers as soon as it came back in stock. This morning when i was checking stock avaliability all three stores have increased the price of the camcorder to £193.69 and it still out of stock . Is there anyway i can get it for the previous price. it seems ridiculous that they can have two large price increases in the space in a week .Not so long ago It ws retailing for |£135.00 according to the person who started the thread .

Don't forget that the weakening £ means imports become more expensive... quite possible that new stocks of anything will cost them more

Having said that, HDD camcorders are generally on a dropping price trend and 30GB is quite small so expect newer models at similar (to now) prices in the not too distant future.

My opinion: I don't believe in HDD camcorders - putting all your eggs in one basket. I'd rather have physical tapes I can stash away as backups and transfer to PC at my leisure rather than being forced to do so every time the HD becomes full, possibly having to take a laptop on hols, and being scared that dropping or losing the camera means hours, days or weeks of irrecoverable memories getting lost. I'm just saying the minus side - not looking for debate - I can see the attractiveness of a compact self-contained unit that allows long continuous shooting. Once SD camcorders become good enough quality that'll be my next step as the memory cards have steadily already dropped to affordable levels already

    Hello,

Just a heads up to anyone who bought a JVC Everio Camcorder - you have to claim the cashback online by 12th Feb and send off a copy of your receipt by 16th Feb.

The site to go to is:
    https://www.jvc.co.uk/everiocashbackoffer.php

I have been meaning to claim this since I bought my camcorder on 27th Dec and never got round to it. Just found the leaflet about the offer and it says on the front that promotion ends 15th Jan BUT that date is only to purchase one by - you have until 12th Feb to claim!!!

I only found this out after 10mins of cursing and typing in the web address anyway to give it a go!!!!
