X Box 360 Warning

Hi
If like us you bought someone an Xbox 360 make sure they don't move the box or leave it where it can be knocked whilst it has a disc in it. This can result in fatal damage being caused to the game disc. There is a warning about this in the manual and all over gamer forums but 11 year old boys that have already played their mates don't read instructions. As a side issue doe anyone know if the Belkin adapater thing that plugs into our old non wireless laptop will make the Xbox wireless and if so how do we set it up?

Best Wishes

I purchased one the other day, and there was a sticker over the drive stating the same.

I'm afraid you need to use the Microsoft wireless adapter (or you could just plug it into your router with an ethernet cable).

You dont need a microsoft wireless adapter you can use a standard PCMCIA laptop adapter (about £10- £15) ,set the laptop up on the net then bridge the Xbox and Laptop together. This has the added bonus of imediate networking eg. any films/pictures or music are then avalible on the Xbox.

excuse my ignorance but does that mean that the laptop then needs to be on for the xbox to be able to use the connection?

Yes, the laptop would need to be on. You're much better off to connect either via CAT5 to your router or buy the Xbox wireless adapter.

You could also buy a wireless AP and connect that via CAT5 to the Xbox, then bridge it to your wireless router but I doubt that would save you any money.

Or you could invest in some HomePlugs.

Immediate networking for the Xbox isn't really an issue as it's very easy to set it all up. Take a look here.
The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

I can't help but think a laptop would cost more than a £55 Microsoft network adapter.
