Using Microsoft Access 2003 With mySQL

Options
Wondering if anyone can help.

I've recently started saving the labels from wine I drink so I can keep a record of what I like.

Then I thought "Why don't I make a database?"

Then I thought "My webspace has mySQL database and I have Microsoft Access 2003. Maybe I could make an online database?"

And then I though "Hold on. I don't have a clue how to do this. Maybe someone can help?"

So any pointers about this? Are there any free online guides for setting up simple databases using Access and mySQL? I've done a good and they are all coming up with links to buy books.

Do I need to use mySQL for something this simple? Does anyone know of a php application I can customise?

Cheers

Is your web server windows or linux? Does it support ODBC connections?

I thought the only reason one would want to link to a MySQL database is to import the data into MS Access, i.e. converting MySQL to Access. How were you planning on writing the pages for website?

It all seems a bit of a muddle to me! I would google a bit and for now stick to an offline database in Access :)

Thanks for the advise moneyuser - I've just been reading about Mambo CMS and might start tinkering about with that instead and shelf the database. :)

If you were looking at using a MySQL database your best option would probably be to use a script at your web host, written in something like PHP which interacts with the database and updates/adds/retrieves the info, displaying it in your web browser. Only trouble is you would need a password protection system which you could do with Apache or you could write your own password protection system... The list goes on and on... :)

The Mambo CMS is probably a better idea if you can get it to work... :)
