A Quick Help Guide to Boxing Day Returns...

does not state this in Argos terms and conditions.
Doesn't have to be as the returns policy is not a statutory right, only a gesture of goodwill, therefore can be withdrawn at any time and modified as seen fit for each individual case at the store's discretion. It doesn't affect your statutory rights if it is faulty etc.5. Returns, Cancellations and Substitutions
5.1 We offer a 30-day money back guarantee, please refer to Returns and refunds. Some products are excluded from the Guarantee and are clearly marked by a † next to the product name. In the unlikely event that you receive faulty or damaged goods, please refer to our Returns and refunds sectionIf I change my mind...
Within 30 days
Most things we sell are covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee, so just return them to us unused, in their original undamaged packaging, in a saleable condition, with your receipt and we’ll give you a refund.
If you don't have your receipt, as long as you have a proof of purchase we'll exchange the item or give you a refund with vouchers.
If you'd like to return something we've delivered, just call us on...
What was your proof of purchase when you went in? Receipt? Catalogue Number on packaging? Bank Statement? If it was neither then you were lucky just to get a gift card at the lowest price.
A proof of purchase could be:
The receipt
Bank statement
Picking ticket attached to the item
The catalogue number on the packaging
And to be quite honest this is far more goodwill than some stores, for example Sport World/Sports Direct/Sports Soccer will only offer you a credit note or an exchange if you have the original receipt, nothing else is acceptable for none faulty items! The medium to that is TK Maxx for example, who will offer refunds but will only do their returns policy with the original receipt. With the NEXT sale on too they probably won't exchange anything without a receipt/gift receipt.
If it is the original receipt (i.e. printed on thermal till roll with the explanation of the returns policy on the back) and you were still only offered a gift card then your quarrel is with the individual store, but if for example it was a scanned/faxed/photocopied receipt then we could have people returning stuff with multiple copies of the same receipt at different stores with stock from "the back of a white van" for want of a better phrase!
Plus all stock has to be labelled with our numbers on so that we can pick the stock correctly in the stockroom.
The 30-day returns are a bit more lenient at Christmas, but it has to be identifiable as an Argos product, i.e. packaging with the 7 digit catalogue number, otherwise like I said we get people with Woolworths returns trying to claim refunds for items we did not sell to them![DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

If there are any moderators/admins reading this could you make this into a sticky, at least temporarily until after new year to save multiple question threads? Thanks! :money:[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

Just wanted to say a big thank-you for this thread, it's very useful and I'm sure many will appreciate it. :T Sticky-ing it would be a great idea!
I was looking for information about returning a sealed DS game (grandparents bought a game my son already has!), with receipt and sticker, and have my answer now, thank you! Will go and ask nicely if they will exchange it for a different game and make a small child very happy. :A0 -
i bought my baby a magic rattle pooh, the only magic thing about it it is makes a horrible grinding noise and doesn't move at all!
i was really upset on xmas day as we didn't buy him alot because he's so little, just thought i would get a few bits he would really like
i dont have the reciept (looked everywhere) and it came in a plastic wrapper that i took off before wrapping him up so i guess thats where the barcode was.
the packaging has been demolished by trying to get it open.
is it going to be really embarrasing trying to get a replacement?
i looked online and there are none in stock now.
i might just bite the bullet and get one from somewhere else for him rather than waiting for ages and being told off, what do you think?0 -
I would take it back as its broken, the worst they can say is no.
As for the receipt, if you paid by debit or credit card you could use the statment.
But I would give it a go even without receipt.0 -
Also try to work out the date/approximate time that you purchased it and return it to the original store. Make sure you know the catalogue number in advance, and let them know all information. They can then trace the transaction and might hopefully replace it for you...x:A0
