Alternative to Pinnacle/movie maker software

Have Pinnacle 8 which i used to use on windows XP. Unfortunately it is not compatible with Vista. Is there a free version of a video editing/making software that can be used on Vista? Thanks
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
