I really don't think this needs to be a big deal.
It's unlikely they'll ask for ID, and if they do, just give them joint account/joint bill evidence. They probably only want ID to ensure you haven't stolen the vouchers, so as long as you can prove you are the wife then there shouldn't be a problem. Why not go in the next day or two while the stores are busy and they'll be less fussy?
If you get refused, you could always try your luck at another store.0 -
Agree with above, But to get the vouchers they did take my PC first then bout a week l8ter they sent the letter.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it ....0 -
well, today the vouchers arrived and although the letter is to Mr x surname, the voucher is just Mr surname. so am going to take son with is id and see if they will notice. on voucher it tells store to deal with as a gift voucher but to enter voucher reference number, so initial worry is will initial show up on sceen when entering voucher reference number ?or will it be just mr surname? or will no name show up at all? but have just a space to enter reference number. then next worry is son using his passport and bank statement as id, will they write these down on back of voucher or not bother? it is just so annoying as the bloody thing is mine and its been me stuck in house without it while its gone on its many journies to the big workshop in the sky. also they have given a like for like value so not talking about few pounds, voucher is for £370.92!!! i am now worried that if not at store, at some point they will see that the initials do not match up??? all i can say is that my husband was away (which is tue) and that my son collected it for him bringing his 2 forms of id thinking that was what was necessary to collect machine and at no time was he pretending to be his dad or did he sign his dads name but his own. then i guess walk away with as much composure as possible but without the lap top. or take home and wait to see if it is followed up???? what a dilema!!!0

Looking on the bright side, the value of the vouchers is likely to buy you more kit today than it did two years ago, isn't it? I had vouchers a couple of years ago (sorry, like others before me can't remember the exact procedures) but don't recall needing to prove who I was and the entire transaction was carried out exactly as if I had been given vouchers as a gift. The manager at PCW was great - threw in several more items than I actually needed (extra print cartridges, new mouse mat, 5 reams of printer paper etc) and made an adjustment to the final price so that it exactly matched the value of the vouchers. Your plan to take your son with you but not make him lie sounds excellent; I'm sure all the stuff about different initials won't be an issue - good luck.0

Try not to worry too much, it sounds like you should be fine, the voucher says Mr X, and Mr X is there so no problem. And you will end up with a nice shiny new working (hopefully) laptop and if you're lucky maybe even the odd free accessory or two.0

would you believe got myself in such a state over it that i got one of my disabled cabs out and braved the cold in my wheelchair to get and get it now so i would know whether it went through or not. got out of taxi and saw some grids on windows on side of job but didnt surprise me as dodgy area and bloody place closed at 6. so had pleasure of men looking out at me grinning. now i have to wait it out not knowing. have found a really nice one too, will put link to show you

To be honest, you have the same surname, will have the ID showing that so I don't think it's an issue. Turn up with the ID, the vouchers and purchase that laptop (it's quite a good one!), I very much doubt they'll make an issue out of it, just say it was a present for you, so your husband is letting you choose a new one and he couldn't make it down. If they kick up a fuss then get your son to go down and just say they got the wrong initial on the vouchers. Well you could even say they made a mistake and put Mr instead of Mrs!0

i hope so am going mad over the whole thing. spent 2 weeks arguing withe insurance company as they said thye would not put the vouchers in my name as it would be illegal as husbands name is on the warranty. i even said they could issue a cheque in his name and i coulod put it in my joint account, another thing i cant change without his siganture. cant believe its the only thing in his name all the debt is in my name. its been driving me crazy for 2 weeks. so when voucher arrived today and i saw they left off his initial i was over the moon. that was till daughter pointed out that they needed to enter reference number on voucher and how his full name may then come up on screen. then to make it worse she said well even if you get it home they may still spot it at later stage at head office or something!! so course had to dash up there then to get it over with!!! i know i seem paranoid or something its just so frustrating that the only thing in his name is causing me such grief. plus the fact that i really need one so having to part with cold hard cash when i have voucher sat in my purse worthless would break my heart0

:j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j well, so off i went today with son in tow and after having a stiff cigarette in i went complete with sons ID. sfter being sent around a few different isles by different salemen i finally got to the point where i ended the vouchers over and he said oh hold on a minute i need to ask manager about these. so i am there heart pounding after the false start yesterday and try to browse while waiting when manager came over to me and i thought i would faint!! and he says to me oh sorry about this but he doesnt know how to put these through till so can i follow him to tills so he can talk him through it. i handed voucher over, son was slumped on counter and we were all chatting about hangovers and how day was nearly over and he hands it over to me with receipt and off we go. then i get to the door and this security man approached me with a clip board asking to see my receipt. i show him and he scribbles something down and then out the door and into the car!!! no questions asked, no ID asked for and a nice new shiny computer on back seat of car. i cant believe how close i was to not bothering to go after all the weeks of faff with head office over the whole thing. PLUS for the moment anyway i still have my old computer because when the guy came to collect it last week i told him collection was cancelled as i was not going to hand it over and get nothing back, especially as it had not quite given up the ghost yet but should imagine i will get a call about that soon. but thanks everyone for your words of encouragement as always i could not have done it without you :A0
