i had an extended warranty supplied via p c world for my lap top. it is 2 years old and the warranty has been running for a year at £7.99 a month. the lap top has been a nighmare from start to finish and been in the workshop more than it has been on my lap. the last 4 times with the same problem. i have finally persuaded them to replace it. they have said they will send out a voucher to be taken into the store to pick up my new lap top and made arrangements to pick up my old. the fatal flaw in all this as it was bought as an xmas present by my recent ex husband and voucher will be made out in his name and will need to bring in 2 pieces of identification. my husband walked out 7 weeks ago and one has had any contact with him since. he was orignally going to his mothers but she says he is not there and not too pleasantly told me not to ring again and get on with my own life. i wrote to him there and at his work place with no reply and they say he is off sick and he hangs up on me if i call. so basically i cant contact him. i have said this countless times to anyone at p c world and insurance company to anyone that will listen and short version of their reply was tough. solicitor says i could start divorce proceedings on grounds of desertion or unreasonable behavior but this will take months and months!!! what can i do? i am lost without it as am disabled and housebound and do all shopping, banking and communicating with family who all live outside london. my mum has offered to buy one but am so angry that this is yet one more thing he is controlling without even being here. all £30,000 of debt he has left in my name but this one thing is in his name. i have asked for a refund maybe in his name as still have joint account but they are adament it has to be voucher in his name. surely i am not he first person to find myself in this predictament???? please help????

Do you know what pieces of identification are accepted?
You mention you have a joint account still, could that i.e a bill/statement be used as one form of identification?
Is there any other joint bill or any possible other form of identification in your home?
Is the voucher spcifying the laptop or is it just 'gift vouchers'? Have you expleined to PC world your situation i.e. advised them you are unable to get to PC world and therefor require a replacement to be delivered (not a voucher!) ......perhaps when the old one is collected?
Personally I would only accept an adequate replacement not vouchers.0 -
Maybe a little white lie. I would not normally advocate this, but this situation seems so unfair. You are housebound - perhaps you could send someone along with the necessary identification (joint bank statement/household bill etc) and they could accidentally say he was housebound instead of you? Or perhaps you could get someone to call them saying your ex are too upset to call, and they could have a "minor" go at them saying they think it is disgusting that they should treat someone who is housebound this way etc etc and they could ask if they could go and get the laptop on your ex's behalf as there is no way he can get it, and ask what ID would need to be produced. That person could then point out that the laptop should really be delivered to the owner's address in this situation and maybe that would get a response?
Sorry, don't know what else to suggest, I think you are being treated really badly and I hope it gets resolved.
As for the debt he's left you with - well, you're on the right website to sort that out!
Good luck. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Find out what ID they will accept and get a male friend to collect it.0

i dont know for definite what id they require but i would assume one would have to be photo or signature otherwise surely they would have said did not need to panic, but then again maybe they would not tell me that otherwise they would be encouraging me to use voucher illegally. i do still have bills, bank statements etc so finding 2 would be easy but cant see that being sufficient somehow, mind you even if they wanted copy of sig what would store have to compare it with???? maybe am getting myself worked up unnecessarily, perhaps they wont want signature in blood.
they did not say would say on voucher to replace lap top or whether it would be blank to use for wahtever i see fit but dont see how that would afect id, might be just having a dim moment though.
as for demanding replacement and not just voucher has been discussed in great length with whoever would listen but have said no!! was even hung up on as woman said i was refusing to listen to what would be a breach of data protection to change who voucher was intended for. really needed something to threaten them with but dont know what. as said previously even demanded a full refund in form of cheque payable to him which i could stick in joint account but would have none of it. after all forgetting fact of id i may not want to buy again from p c world after all the problems i have had but they say terms and conditions bla bla bla i dont even have copy of agreement so couldnt argue point!!! they really have me between rock and a hsrd place :mad:0 -

Hi there,
I had a replacement for my pc about 5/6 months ago. They could not repair it so give me vouchers. It is a letter with 2 vouchers at attached at the bottom (1 was for the amount of £750 and remaining was remaining amount from my warranty purchase bout £70)
When I took it in to pc world to purchase a laptop (instead of a pc) and handed over the vouchers, the cashier didn’t ask for any id, bills nothing...
It was as if it was a normal transaction (vouchers were in my dad’s name).
So just have a go, and act normal ... Hope this helps.
Kind Regards

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it ....0 -

Sorry 4 the l8 reply ... been out.
To be honest (it has been bit long, I can’t remember, but I know I did take in a utility bill under Mr ... but I can’t remember what the other thing was and I doubt it I took anything else in except for the voucher letter and the bill.... And no idea what I would have said.
Hope it works out well.
Best Regards

P.S. If I find the top half of the letter I’ll pm u a copy.

thanks for getting back to me, am so peeved that i might just end up with some vouchers that are useless. i did tell the men who came to take old one away that its collection had been cancelled as there was no way i was giving them mine and not getting replacement. was wondering whether it is worth getting on to cab about it if i find i cant return it. am hoping viucher comes soon while stores are busy and may just put it through0 -
Just had an idea- not saying this is ok, but worth a shot:
Have you tried telling PC world that he is either in prison, in hospital or has died? could also be quite cathartic!0
