    I live in a completely plasterboarded house and tend to stock up on proper plasterboard fixings from B&Q every time there's a project to be done. More expensive than ordinary rawlplugs but none of the heartache of falling down shelves.
    They're made of metal and open up in the wall to provide a grip for stuff. They do work!
    Failing that there are some nice brackets especially in Ikea to go with all their shelving ranges and not too dear, a couple of quid each.
