AOL Running Slow Any Advice ?

Hi
I would be grateful for any advice. When I sign on to AOL I cannot access any websites unless I wait about 2 minutes between each click. I did have problems before with my AOL but this was when I could not get a connection at all. But my problem now is with the computer speed when I connect (running soooooooooooo slow). I have read posts here before which suggest the problem lies with AOL themselves. Before I start the mammoth task of phoning the Call Centres of the world, is there anything I should maybe do with my own computer to rectify the problem.
Many Thanks & Merry Christmas

Are you using any AOL software (their browser etc), if the answer is yes that'd be my first target. You really really don't want any of your ISP's software on your PC. General rule but applies particularly to AOL."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Have you done the usual adware/spyware search and cleaned your registry
Good programes are Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy and CCleaner (all free from download.com)
How about uninstalling and reinstalling all the AOL stuff, and possibly even your modem's driver (check it first to see if it's conflicting with anything on system info)
Better still change your broadband provider!!!
I hate AOL i'm with BT Yahoo.Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open.

Many Thanks for the replies
I,m not too sure about removing the ISP software from my computer. Is this straightforward? Say for instance I sign on with AOL and use the Internet Explorer Browser. If I remove the AOL files will I still be able to sign on. Also I,m tied to AOl for another 9 months so can't change providers at the moment.0 -
