BT want £110 for extension

Any ideas how to do this cheaper? BT want £110 to install an extension socket (having SKY installed). I know there are people out there who do extension sockets but where to find them?? Live in Wiltshire.

Can't you just buy a double adapter to plug into your master socket and buy and run an extension kit and run it to where you want it.

A whole lot cheaper and very easy to do with no experience necessary - honestly :)

    Hope this helps.

Come to think of it I didnt have a phoneline for my sky when I had it installed and the Sky man put one in for me at no extra cost. Since then though I have unplugged the phoneline from the sky box as you only need it if your going to pay for extras through the phone bill.

This is exacxtly what I did. Bought the double adapter and extension cable from my local pound shop. Total cost £1.98. Works great!
  • Thanks. Might try that - problem is the main socket is on the third floor - attic extension so a long way to run the leads!

What I did when I wanted an extension a mile away, I ran the extension from the double adapter in the room at the master socket and up the wall to the ceiling, through it (above the window) and into the bedroom above.

I have also done it where I've gone through the living room window frame and up the front of the house and in through the bedroom window frame!

Another once I simply ran it around the outer edge of the living room > up the stairs and into the bedroom.

Some kits you get clips to pin the extension wire to the wall.

In your case I'd look for an exit point in the attic and entry point in the room where the sky box is - this can be going outside down the wall or through the ceilings down the inside of the wall or long way around (like I have done).#

It's easier to get someone to do it but, not cheaper.

If it looks quite easy I'd go ahead and do it but if your daunted and stuck then get someone to do it but, it is a cheap and easy job - you just need to figure an exit point and an entry point ;)

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks. Will get a load of cable/extensions and give it a try but might plead ignorance with the sky installer man in case he's got some in his van??
  • Hiya
Just a quickie as should be working!! :p

When my parents had sky installed and also when we had telewest, they put in the extension sockets where we wanted them for free! Did not even have to ask them!
Can't remember why we needed extensions - for the sky I think was 'cos our tv was not in same room as phone socket. They told us we would need one and where would we like it!

So I would wait for them to do it and if they don't then ask (nicely!)

    Good luck!
