I don't know if I think its a good idea or not. I watched 'rock stars kids' on tv last night. Alice Coopers daughter(Calico) wanted to go into showbusiness and he offered her a part in his show on condition she got all As. She wasn't impressed at first but she did it and he stuck to his word

i was thinking along the lines of rewarding my eldest, who's grades have already increased above her predicted..... by hard work....
but moneywise,, she isnt a spender and the money she earns from paperrounds just sits in her bank account.

so i might go with the laptop idea, only not a new one....
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

My son got £10 for every exam passed.

If I had offered him the same as you glad I would be broke again.

Although in many ways it goes against the grain, if your child is able but lazy/unmotivated:mad:  :o a bribe (oops, sorry, I mean potential reward:D ) can work remarkably well.........

It's all very well pointing out to them the advantages (for their futures) of doing well now, but for some the future is just too far away to compete with the urgency of going out with mates etc - but the promise of hard cash seems to focus the mind considerably!

It must be soooo nice to have children who want to do well for the sake of it.

Bribery all the way! Mine cost me a fortune I'm proud to say.

All of their friends were bribed as well. seemed to work very well :D

When I took my GCSEs 11 years ago, I was offered £10 for an A, £8 for a B and £5 for a C from my (former primary headteacher) grandmother. I did ok and spent the rest of the summer counting my money! It didn't make me work any harder, but it was definitely nice to receive.

  • My parents didn't do this (though I encouraged them!), my mum said that if I did worse than expected it would just add to the disappointment, and good grades should be motivation enough.

There was never actually any expectation that my grades would not be good though - in which case why pay me for my results?

I'd go along with the idea of a present/treat after all the hard work (as long as it has been hard work!), but i wouldn't base it on grades.
