moved to house with precast fire place but no fire
bought a fire from b&q and had some one to install but have been told that the depth of the fireplace will not allow me to have any gas fire inset
the depth is about 100mm only with concrete surrounding the gas pipe
please can anyone suggest a way out

There are not many gas fires you can install in a pre-cast flue. You can also get balance flue and Fan/flued gas fires, but you will have to fit to an outside wall.A thankyou is payment enough .0

Hi,
A good starting point for information and a small selection of fires would be a decent manufacturer like Baxi http://www.firesandstoves.co.uk for an indication of what is available and for what flue types.
I personally would avoid the fan flued type fires as they tend to become noisy after a while with the sound of the fan.
Good Luck

thanks for your advice
still stuck
the gas fitter who cam to fit a slimline fire in said he would no take the concrete out
the outset fires are not good looking(so says the wife)
another fire store said if i changed whole fore suite they will bring forward the marble back to get some depth
really getting confused whether i will get a fire there or not
if it helps i can pm pics for suggestions0 -
Not sure if it's of any help to you, but I needed an inset fire that had a lower height than is standard. The 2 manufacturers I tracked down were Kinder & Matchless.
I believe both did extra slim models too, so these maybe worth checking out if you do end up having to buy a new fire. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
