Is this Dremel kit worth it?

I received a Dremel 300 this morning which I ordered from Amazon but 14 of the 25 'accessories' are bits of sandpaper. I was expecting accessories in terms of being able to cut but seems you have to buy extra sets of tools separately.

I don't know whether it's as good value as I thought, for £29... what do you experts think? :o

  • These kits are good but unless you're shaving 1cm off of a matchstick you'll eat your way through the sandpaper discs and cutting wheels. even cutting through an inaccessible 15mm copper pipe took three of the cutting discs. They are all fiddly to change with the small screw hard to locate, easy to lose, and the point at which the disc rips away. So, in summary good for some things but eats your way through the discs and best reserved for those few jobs when nothing else will work. Aldi occasionally has the accessory kits at knock down prices. Dremel are much dearer so stock up at Aldi when on promotion

Aldi had the accessory kits quite recently (Sunday just gone I think) - if you are lucky they might have some left.

You're right Suzy, I'll have to hope there are some left:

They also sell the power tool itself at less than half the price from Amazon, so if it's in stock then Amazon can have the Dremel back!

I can't believe I didn't notice these, I even get the ALDI emails every week :o

Only good for light use. Dont do what i did trying to cut or sand heavy stuff, ended up with a burned out blob of plastic!

Thinking ahead, it'll be used for light sanding on corners of skirting boards where there's a little dented/uneven paint, but also for sanding a rusting wheel arch on the car back to bare metal ready for primer, filler and repainting. Also needed to sand the bottom of an outside wooden door where paint looks like it's cracking.

Is there any other tool you'd recommend aside from this multi one at ALDI? I'll be dropping by tomorrow to see if they have any in stock.
  • i got a very similar item from machine mart, foudn it on the returns shelf and paid £13! not let me down yet and it came with a load of sandpaper bits!
I am a building surveyor and will provide advice based upon what you tell me. It is just that, advice and not instructions. Based on the fact you're getting it for free expect it to be vague! :D
