Hey guys,
Basically, i got a letter a few months ago invoicing me for a "server" in america (to the sum of several hundred dollars), naturally, i phoned them up and explained that i'd got this, it was my name and address but i didn't order anything. They explained someone had likely ordered it fraudulently and they would deal with it. That was the end of the matter so i thought until yestarday and today, when i received 2 invoice reminders through the post for the previous balance, and one for what totals $1000 for 4 more servers ordered! I'm starting to panic a bit, because clearly they havent listened to what i've said and they're letting someone order things in my name. I'm stressed over this and I don't know what to do, should I go to the police? Or what? I'm gonna try calling them as soon as they open but I'm really worried about what might happen, I've got 3 letters in the space of 2 days from them demanding money and I haven't even ordered anything
Any advice would be fantastic.
Thanks

It's easy to say ignore it but I'm starting to stress over it, at the end of the day it's identity fraud isn't it?0

Check that your credit cards and bank accounts haven't been debited.
Check that the phone number they provide isn't some sort of premium rate one.
google the company name they gave and the address they wish you to send payment to.
If you run a business from your home, limited company for example then it's easy enough to get the name and address details from companies house.
Web hosting and server hosting to individuals tends to be done on a "pay us, then you get the toys", so invoicing you is bizarre.
Instruct them by letter that you did not order the servers, you aren't going to pay for them and they should consider any further orders under your name and address to be fraudulent.
Not sure how consumer protection works internationally but i'm fairly sure they'd have trouble chasing you for the money."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -

Thanks! When i phoned up a month ago it was said that they'd ordered something and had it for a month or so then moved it into my name so i took over the agreement with them? Seems i'm being invoiced retrospectively for services already rendered. I told them over the phone to consider it all fraudulent and i didn't order it.
I'm going to send them a letter explaining everything and telling them to stop sending me chases for payment (3 letters in 2 days is a bit excessive don't you think?)0 -
In order for the supplier to have any legal grounds for action, they would have to have a bona fide order along with evidence that payment was or could be forthcoming. They would have to prove that you received the goods (presumably you would have noticed if some servers arrived one day?) which I take it they have not?
There really isn't very much the US company can do (would you like to name them?) There's nothing to get stressed about. If they continue to pursue you, ask them for the purchase orders they think you sent them. If they sent items without a purchase order or credit card details then they are idiots.0 -
Theres nothing to worry about, if no money has been taken from your account then your ok, i wouldnt waste my time doing a letter and wasting a stamp on it,0
