Morning
Ive got a roblem with an older car i own. The bonnet release catch began sticking and i was having problems opening it
Anyhow after ragging it around to try and open it to get some screenwash in the plastic catch has come out of the fitting - as have the springs etc.
At the moment there is just the wire hanging down with the plastic handle attached. Now i thought to open it all i would need to do is pull hard on the wire but it doesnt appear to be adoing anything - does th handle do anything more than just pull the wire?!
Any info would be great so i can actually see where i am going!!!

I am guessing what you are seeing is the sleeve to the cable. I would suspect that inside the sleeve is the part that needs pulling, and the handle grips the sleeve and tugs the cable in one motion. The cable will be under a spring load, as otherwise every time you used the lever in the car the cable would not recoil.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

get a pair of pliers on the cable, pull the cable and at the same time get someone trying to lift the bonnet. if its been giving you trouble previous to this then it may just be tight.
but next time when it starts to stick get some wd40 on it,or a chain lube or something....work permit granted!0 -
Just thought id update - it worked with the pliers with a big pull. Tried it a few times and i can open it fairly easily now.
WIll this be an MOT failure or is this not part of the assesment?0
