    Looks like the policy may have been on the much-maligned auto-renewal. If that's so, it's definitely their fault and credit to them for holding their hands up.

    Jesthar, don't worry. Seen this happen before on life cover as well! Yep life cover. This will be the insurance companies mistake. Put a full written complaint in and then wait. Keep on pushing and they will sort it out.

    I'm glad to hear that it's all sorted out now, but interestingly enough the Financial Ombudsman Service has details of a similar-ish case on its webiste -

    The Ombudsman decided that although the cancellation of the Direct Debit leading to the cancellation of the cover wasn't the consumers fault, he should be considered partly responsible for the cancellation as he didn't notice that payments weren't being taken from his account.
