Wanted Cheap good sounding surround sound?

Hi
My friend wants to buy a cheap but good sounding surround sound system that he can connect to the TV to use with his XBox. He does not want it through a head phone connection but through the component audio inputs on the TV. Anyone have any ideas please what would be suitable at a good price? Many thanks mags

Surely he wants to use the OPTICAL output of the xbox to get digital surround sound?

There is cheap and there is good.

Cheap and good very rarely go together.

What does she or he consider a “good” price?

Richer Sounds linked above are usually very good value for money.

people will dispute this but i think you can get a good sounding home cinema system for between £200-£300. go for sony or panasonic or maybe samsung. they are all likely to have an optical in for sound from other sources such as sky+ or a games console.

Review of the Yamaha I linked to above http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews107353.html - nothing to complain about in the sound quality dept at this price.
