cooker extractor fan, not on outside wall?

Hi,
We want to buy a Range cooker and extractor fan but want to position it on a wall that backs onto the dining room and not to the outside.
we wish to buy a Chimney Hood like the picture below.

Is there anyway to funnel the air/fumes out without ugly external ducting ?
What's vent diameter do these kind of hoods use? Could we bury it in the wall?
Thanks
JC

Hiya John-c,
Assuming you have a 2 storey house, you may be able to run the ducting between ceiling & floor, & then to an outside wall. It will depend on how your joists run (don't cut through them!!). If you're confident of what you need to do then run to outside wall, use a diamond core bit to drill your hole & make sure you put a proper vent cover on. Make sure you seal the gap between the wall & pipe, to prevent ingress of insects (esp wasps) and prevent heat loss. Also check your extractor fan specs as there are sometimes maximum pipe distances/run lengths they can operate on.
It can be disruptive if you need to lift the upstairs flooring, but the end result may be worth it.

We are renovating a house which had the cooker hood already on the outside wall. We discussed with the builder and decided our new cooker would be better sited on the opposite (internal) wall and I said that if we do that I wont be able to have an extractor - I wanted the extractor not the recycling type of cooker hood.
As Jockster says, no problem, they have put the ducting between the kitchen ceiling and bedroom floor and connected it up to the original position of the old one where it goes through the outside wall. It didn't cause any problems as the ceiling was being replaced anyway.0 -
run the ducting externally and put coveing over the top or box it in and paint it the same colour as your kitchen0

Why not fit Charcoal filters to it then you don't have to Install ducting0
