Vista 64 PC dropping internet connection

Hi, I've just built a new PC with Vista 64 bit Home Premium and I'm having terrible problems with the internet connection.

It can and does connect sometimes but not for long and quickly loses it's wireless connection.

The only old part in the pc is the wireless card so I'm guessing that might be my problem and will try a new one when I can but is there anything else I can try just now ?

I have a laptop running Vista 32 and had another desktop running XP (I took the card from this) and they have no problems at all.

Have you installed the correct driver for this "old" wireless card?

vista 64 wireless implementation is fine here (buffalo nics with broadcom chipset, autodetected by vista)

Looks like I hadn't, I've been through everything updating the drivers but must have missed this one

Now that I've updated it to the 64 bit version the connection is stable but has dropped from 8000 kbps this morning to 580 kbps on a speed test !
