combi boiler-in airing cupboard question??

hi,
getting a combi boiler installed after xmas. ive got a traditional system now with the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard and the boiler in a kitchen cupboard.
ive only got a small kitchen, and i was wondering if i could have the combi boiler installed in the airing cupboard to free up a cupboard in the kitchen? the airing cupboard isnt on an outside wall though.
also does a condensing combi have to go on an outside wall, i was told something about a pipe where the water condenses/drips outside into a trap drain??? this would create a problem i think if i put it in the airing cupboard.

the lofts not an option either, limited space, plus id rather it not be up there for servicing etc.

  • Yes i can go in the airing cupboard but may mean extra money to pay for a vertical flue kit!!! It can be done though and is very common!! Bg engineer

You are quite correct about the condensate discharge pipe, if you are lucky and the airing cupboard backs onto the bathroom it can usually be run into the waste there. Otherwise you may have to get a pump to remove the condensate, adds about £140ish to the job.

Mine needed a new fan so that must be whats wrong with yours:D

thanks, would i have to raise it off the base of the airing cupboard to allow for pipework etc. (as all the walls are studded in the airing cupboard)
also what about the water/steam outlet from a condensing combi when located in airing cupboard.
(i was told theres some sort of pipe that drips outside)

    cheers

the airing cupboard doesnt back onto the bathroom  its in the centre of the house, may be that i end up having it in the kitchen again, but would prefer it in the airing cupboard upstairs.
would rather not have a condensate pump, but it looks like its the only option now after what you say.
  • Could you put it on the gable wall in the loft?

Airing cupboard is fine if you can run the condensate pipe under the floorboards through an outside wall and outside into a drain.

Can you get the fall to comply with the manufacturers instructions this way? Usually 44mm-50mm/metre, thats some deep joists!

i cant get the required fall from under the floorboards unfortunately.

also it could go in the loft on the gable end, only just as there is limited room and height. but i would have preferred it in the airing cupboard for servicing purposes etc.
