has anyone stayed in the reading hotel, 'wokefield park'? i've booked for a valentine's day treat, but having read the reviews, am now very concerned! any experiences would be greatly received.
    cheers!
See my post earlier in this thread

PS. You will be there at the same time as Bexbox2 - a mini MSE meet.
  • has anyone had their "bargain" room yet?

I stayed in the Warbrook House hotel near hook, Hampshire last night.....

looks alright from the outside but we had a box of a room behind the reception desk and were constantly woken all night by the sound of the reception phone ringing and talking in the reception area.

    what a dump

oh and it was £15 for a dried up buffet breakfast.

Wouldnt ever book a de vere again!

We stayed in this place Saturday night and enjoyed it. Not surprisingly the place was full. In the evening we drove into Reading and had a very nice dinner in an Indian restaurant.

Ascot = nice grounds, but rooms are tiny and older decor.

For some reason the two hotels from De Vere that we have stayed in so far have both had annoying loud water running noises fom radiators
  • We stayed at Sunningdale Park (Ascot) at the weekend and first impression was "have we got the right place". It didn't look like what was shown on the website and when we approached the receptionist, she said De Vere is a venue for conferences and it's not a hotel, so we were kind of disappointed. Car parking was limited but the room was not bad, it was clean and tidy and looked like a hotel room (but from the outside it looked like university halls of residence). The room is a standard size double room and i think it is quite spacious for 2 people. The buffet style breakfast was £7.50pp for a full breakfast and £4.50pp for a continental breakfast. We had the full breakfast on the 1st day but I wasn't too keen as it was quite greasy, so we opt for a McD on the next day :rotfl: For £10 a night I think it's worth it!

We went to Virginia Water which is about 15-20mins drive. It is a huge park and we had a lovely walk... highly recommended! Overall I was pleased with my weekend break and would consider staying here again.
  • We've stayed in Gorse Hill, in Woking and it was amazing - looks like it's all been newly refurbished and the breakfast was yummy. Would certainly go back there. I think they are now doing weddings at weekends as lots of Saturdays seem to be totally booked.
De Veres often have really good room deals and we found ours from a friend's recommendation. I guess like so many things it actually depends on the people involved.
Anyway, they've another promotion this week but I can't post the link - just google it- rooms are from £10.

Oh, and I'd certainly call Gorse Hill posh!!!

Devere hotels are lovely....can highly recommend the Theobalds Park Hotel....try and stay in The Mansion or The Ridings, both have lovely rooms, very modern interiors and look out for upgrades and deals once you book, they emai them to you.......Defo worth the money, and the breakie is very filling and you can request well done bacon, eggs no yolks etc
Have a sauna and gym too...if you have time walk about the grounds (if not too cold) we saw some lovely bunnies and baby deers
    hth

Also stayed at the Branksome Place, which was far but nice too, Felt they had ruined the oldness of it though with the modernity of the interior......bit ship like!!!
Great breakkie too though and a lovely Thai down the road.

we are at theobalds end of next month (may) for £10 so cant wait! glad to hear its really nice - it had been on my lsit of hotels i wanted to go to for ages so so pleased to get a room on offer :j

we were due to stay at gorse hill this saturday for surprise birthday (£30 offer) treat for partner. i booked in march and emailed them checking about dinner. anyhow they left message last night (partner heard ) to say the restuarant cannot be used due to wedding. i called and complained and was not offered an upgrade or anything but lady looked into their other venues. we are now being move to Horsley Park. Anyone any idea what it is like please? You cannot even book bedrooms there online so i guess its only ever used for business trips and weddings but i am hoping it will be nice as we want a romantic night away with a nice meal. Still waiting for the email confirmation that we are now going there as i dont want to turn up and noone knows we are coming ..... especially as i did book and pay in March.

    Hi all,

just booked the wokefield park hotel. Has anyone been before? There seem to be two very different buildings there, the old mansion and the executive centre. Does anyone recommend one building over another? Or has anyone had a room they have been particularly pleased with?

    Thanks
