setting up amplifier / speakers / home entertainment

If there are 4 (pairs) of wires one going to each corner than you can connect your front left and right and your rear left and right speakers to them
the central speaker will come off your amp and be near the TV as will the Sub-woofer.
I think you will struggle for that budget but this is the sort of thing you would be after I suspect

EDIT - no it wont as it has a DVD included!
Have just seen this one on Currys that looks like it might be half decent especially as it's been significantly reduced in price. Not sure what they mean by DVD upscaling though? http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0425538721.1230047778@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdjadefmkhfddfcflgceggdhhmdfoj.0&page=Product&fm=12&sm=2&tm=2&sku=055076&category_oid=#productInformationSection0 -

could start a whole new thread, should you upscale, vs, letting your TV do it natively....problem with all in one kit is that if one part if it goes wrong you junk the lot, better off with a standalone dvd player and 5.1 system, then when funds allow add bluray player (or PS3), or whatever takes your fancy (IMHO)You can't rely on a lottery win to pay off your debts....or a long lost aunt come to that;)0

What digital connection does the dvd recorder have? Optical or coax (or both):idea:0

just had a look in the manual and it has both. What diference does this make as to what I need to get?
You'll need to double check what inputs your AV amp has, although it will probably have both coaxial and optical, too.
If so, flip a coin as to which cable you get as performance-wise they're pretty much identical.0 -

Well, whatever amplifier you buy, it must have at least one or the other. But the more connections the more you can connect for digital sound obviously. Sky and Virgin+ both use optical
PS3 and XBOX 360 both use optical
So id try connecting the player via Coax if I were you and try to buy an amp with as many extra optical connections as your willing to pay for (Purely just so if you DO want to connect anything else, you dont then have to buy another amp just to accomodate it!):idea:0
