If anybody is to blame its Ofcom for allowing these dq numbers and short codes to be similar. If you stick a 1 in front of 18185 it also leads to a dq service.

Why not move to 1899 and save yourself some money at same time 18866,charge 4p connection,1899 3p connection.

Also consider investing in a Orchid Dialler,to avoid misdialling.

I have the 18866 and 18186 numbers programmed into my phone, so I just press a couple of buttons to get the 18866 (or whatever) and dial the rest of the number I want manually.

Just read this post on SayNoTo0870:
    http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1150287418

    Where a user accidentally dialled a 1 before 18866, resulting in 118 866, a directory enquiries service with a £1.50 connection charge!

    Ouch!

Sorry to say, someone does it every few months - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=74259
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

My god... I really am a n00b aren't I... I did do a search but somehow didn't find that thread.

Still, can't hurt for new members like myself (or readers with fat fingers) to know about these things.

    Nice work, Heinz!

At the very least 18866 users should get an Orchid Dialer.Or start using 1899 who are cheaper.

Warning if you misdial 118185 this also gets you a not so cheap DQ service.

Heres what Icstis say about 118866
