Not Had an Electricity Bill for 15 Months

Hi, Moved into a newbuild flat in October last year. The Electricity provider was Powergen. In July I changed it to NPower with monthly direct debit as the payment type. I changed via USwitch and have the contract printed out.

I've not had a bill either from Powergen or NPower and no direct debits taken out of my account. I'm more of the opinion that the money is best in my ISA until they get round to sending us a bill. My wife would rather sort it out and contact them rather than get a huge bill at some point.

Firstly, can anyone think why either company haven't sent us a bill? and there is no chance that they will not send us one in the future is there? (wishful thinking I know).

  • 10 years ago I had Npower for my gas at my first place. They didn't send a bill for a good year or more. So I changed company and won't use them again, back then I was on the lowest rate of income support and so when the big bill can in I wasn't happy.

However don't know why both companies have not sent anything. Or why direct debits aren't being taken. But if I were you I'd get chasing it up after xmas to find out whats going on.
  • I had the same problem with Powergen (now e.on) when I bought my new build house. I've contacted them several times. I've even had someone from e.on knock on my door after reading the meter, who explained that they did not have the meter reference number and this is why I have not been billed. He assured me he would get it sorted, and another 6 months later I still have no bill. I've also emailed them since and still nothing.

As I understand it, they cannot bill you for more than a year if the billing problem is their fault. I'm keeping track of all my correspondence with them to cover my back when they finally ask for payment.

I would advise you contact your local Network distributor (check here)
who will be able to tell you which supplier you are with. You may still be with e.on if they didn't have the info to pass over to NPower. Contact whoever the supplier is in writing - phone calls may not suffice if you have to come up with evidence you have been asking for a bill.

Bear in mind that if they have produced a bill, even if you haven't received it, then the 12 month backbilling rule doesn't apply.

It is not unusual to get problems with the post in a new build.
  • why not just contact your supplier? Instead of living in hope that they won't send a bill.

It could be that if it is new build it could be addressed to plot xxx, xxxx road, xxxx, NEx (no second part of postcode).

In that case the 1 year backbilling doesn't apply as far as I'm aware

Probably best to start a new thread detailing your query, rather than hoping to tag on to this 10 month old thread.
