Here is a solution that is not high tech and I used to do this.

form a matrix of the alphabet

    A B C D E
    2 4 5 6 7
    F G H I J
    9 9 8 7 4
    K L M N O
    0 8 1 2 5
    P Q R S T
    0 5 8 2 5
    U V W X Y
    8 4 0 2 7

have a word that you can remember like CAKE - that would be 5207. Create a matrix for each number you need to remember, it is meaningless to anyone else.

Yes, but how many do you have?

    Lets see:
I have 4 diff pin numbers for cards (will soon be 5 when AMEX finally go chip n pin) and about 11+ diff sets of internet logon details for banks and CC eg, icici, B&B, A+L, Halifax, HSBC, BOS etc.

 I am paranoid, its encrypted now! :D

I have fingerprint recognition on my Ipaq, so unless the thief cuts all my fingers off to be certain of having the right one, plus knows my data is stored on the Ipaq, it is a pretty safe way of recording data.

    In that case, I'm impressed!

A word of warning. Beware of "protecting" certain document types with passwords. For instance, Excel, Word and WinZip files with passwords can be very easily cracked (depending on the version).

If you have an encrypted filesystem, use that - it's a lot stronger.

I store all my info in my head (account numbers, secret data, the lot), so I don't need to be at my home PC or be carrying my PDA. Learn a few simple memory techniques - they are invaluable for loads of other stuff in life, too.

I store all my passwords and pins in notepad text files. Not the numbers themselves, but a memory jogger, like: date of such and such operation.

All my card pins have been changed to same numbers, or variation on the same theme so that I can figure it out if I need to. I deliberately don't change the pin numbers on my stoozing cards so that I can't spend on them. :D

One other option is to change them to a pattern you could use a pin like 8246 (if you have a look at the numeric keypad on your computer, top middle, bottom middle, left middle, right middle keys.)
    Good, clean fun.... :D
