We already have a deprived class, spending their whole life on benefits.
A recent article in the Times by Matthew Parris ended with:
"The choice for policy-makers is stark. “Sink” communities must either be contained and tolerated, or smashed and scattered. Either alternative is most unpalatable. "

The final chapter of 'The Bell Curve' envisaged such a thing. The authors foresaw a time when a large mass of people would be regarded as essentially incapable of normal life, and would be 'herded' by the state. They believed that this would be a bad thing.0 -

As a father, this line made me stop to think:“There will be a lot of people who leave this country, just go away. Think of the future here for the children. When they are 95 they will still be paying for this.”
In Britain it's the same. We borrowed a load of cash and got 'the Government' to bail us out through fear of the consequences. Our kids and theirs are going to be handed the bill. Ditto the bill for the pensions we want but never paid for.
I for one wouldn't be surprised if they say, "Yeah, screw you. I'm off"0 -
ten thousand tasers have been ordered for the events..they are prepared ..are you ? well i still have a milkman just in case...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

He should have seen it coming........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
...However I suspect our society would be less cohesive than Iceland if the brown stuff really did hit and food or energy shortages happened or even worse if Sky TV were to go off air...
If Sky went off the air it would be great. A return to free TV. Bloody rip off merchants. Then all we need to do is get rid off the TV licence tax.0 -

Who would pay for your TV programs and for them to be transmitted to your home in this case?0 -
I wouldn’t worry too much about the Tasers, even though they’re a lot more lethal than governments are prepare to admit. I’m sure any riot would be dealt with with the more usual phalanx of riot shields, water cannons and tear gas. The present government isn’t much concerned with caging the bodies of the people; they want to cage our minds.ten thousand tasers have been ordered for the events..they are prepared ..are you ?
When Sir Ken Macdonald, former Director of Public Prosecutions, describes the future of living in this country as a hellhouse, you have to worry.
I’m not sure how convincing a deterrent that is: Stay back or I’ll unleash the milkman!well i still have a milkman just in case...

advertisements would pay for free terrestrial television like happens in many parts of the world. if it isnt good then advertisers wont cough up the cash. ofcourse people will always have the option to pay for cable tv still i guess.Who would pay for your TV programs and for them to be transmitted to your home in this case?
it is possible to run free terrestrial tv without license fees by advertisement revenue alone. it already happens in many other countries. the tv license thing is a curious uk feature i guess. dont know if the tv licence is prevalent in many other places as well.bubblesmoney :hello:0
