Has anyone had experience with getting travel insurance after having a claim?
Almost a year ago I was hospitalised for four days in the US with double pneumonia and made a claim. I want to go back again this year and wondered if anyone had been in the same situation. Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, "OH CARP, SHE'S UP"! :whistle:0 -
have now found insurance with GETMY with cover for Asthma and Pneumonia. Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, "OH CARP, SHE'S UP"! :whistle:0

Slightly off track as I haven't had to book travel insurance for a couple of years but my sister booked recently, normal cover, not sure who with but it would have been a cheap price, she then had an accident this week, has almost died, and through good management at the scene, not become paralysed but cannot come home for another 2-4 weeks at least until she can sit again. She is distraught about her children here and we are now having to learn as we go along about schoool dinner money, PE kit and when is the next school holiday is. Thankfully she rasied good kids and we have a brilliant mother.
My message, cover yourself for everything, prepare for the worse and then enjoy yourselves but please think before you get onto a big piece of machinery or do a sport you have not declared-it is not worth the grief and pain that follows......still going through it.Thank god for email and skpyee thingy :j0 -
Thanks for the info - I was having trouble getting insurance - I have very mild angina and I was able to confirm the medical declaration required by the BMC insurance. I was also looking for a years mutli-trip that allowed trips upto 90 days - the BMC fitted the bill. :beer:0

I recently applied to Atlas online for a multi trip worldwide insurance for myself and my husband and got an excellent price of £45. Great I thought when even ringing the phone number to tell all our pre-exsisting medical conditions they only put on an excess of £9.49 each. One of my conditions is Diabetis for which I take the usual High Bloodpressure tablet for prevention only, and this was ok with them as long as I had never ever had high bloodpressure. After a check with my GP I discovered I had had high bloodpressure for only a short while in 2003 but for the last 6 years this has been controlled. Relating this info to the medical line it then changed the excess to £300. They stated that if I didnt pay this excess I would not be covered for any illness that could be claimed as being related to Blood Pressure i.e Heart attack etc. What a rip off. Moral is ALWAYS check with the pre-exsisting medical lines first because like insurance companys and their quotes they are all different.

Warning RE EHIC card.
I have just discovered that this card is no longer valid in Jersey for full medical care. It only covers treatment in A & E departments, any in patient treatment is not covered as the reciprical health care arrangements between UK and States of Jersey ended recently, the Medical Screening Companys cheap travel policy is of no use if you require in patient treatment there but it does cover all other aspects of holiday insurance such as cancellationand repatriation etc. Don't get caught out ( as I nearly did! )0 -
Hi,
My husband has just been diagnosed with COPD and we are travelling to Washington DC in the next few weeks. We have Annual Worldwide Travel insurance provided free of charge with our Lloyds TSB Gold bank account.
We have just called them to advise them of the COPD and after a few questions, they will still cover us (including cover for COPD) for an extra charge of £88.12 which beats any other quotes by miles! :T
All paid over the phone, documents will follow in a couple of days.
So it is worth checking with your existing insurer first, before accepting any other quotes.
Hope this helps

Hi, I have searched and aplogise if I have missed any info, but I cant see it on - is there a way of finding out where the state run hospitals are where you are going? We are going to Costa Daurada at the end of June and I cannot get extra cover for me at all and would feel better if I knew where any state run hospitals were located. Does anyone know if there is a list or how to tell where they are. Hope that makes sense.0
