someone sent me and my partner a malicious message on facebook and I have reported this to them however what information will they give me? Am I entitled to obtain information such as IP address or the e-mail address used to register the account. I feel strong enough to take the matter to the police but I would like to know who sent the message.
Thanks

Report it and let it be done.. Not worth it.... Let Facebook deal with it and you enjoy FB for what it is supposed to be, fun! :j0

Its unlikely that facebook will give YOU anything. They will more than likely just ban the sender of said message. the police wouldnt bother with anything of that nature as theres SO many of them on the net and its unlikely to be 'life threatening'
Can you please define said 'malicious message'?:idea:0 -
Was it a one-off message sent directly to you? If so, you'd be better off to ignore it.
Was the message conveyed publicly on your facebook profile and thus publicly available for others to see? In certain circumstances Facebook will be obliged to give you the details they have of the person who sent you the defamatory statement (Norwich Pharmacal Order) if you seek to take legal action against them, although this would be unlikely unless you had plenty of money and the damage you suffered - as a result of the statement - was 'substantial'.0 -
Malicious messages are posted all over the internet every day. Some people have nothing better to do with their time I suppose... Your best bet is to just forget about it. If it starts becoming a more regular activity I would try to get more info off Facebook on what they are doing about the matter. Although I doubt that Facebook would give you details on the sender as the sender and yourself are protected by the data protection act and Facebook has to abide by those legislations or they will get in serious trouble.
I wish you the best of luck in sorting the issue out. It's not nice when you receive those kind of messages. No one likes maliciousness.
Good luck0 -
Get a life is my advice. You're not going to get any information and the Police aren't going to do anything about it.someone sent me and my partner a malicious message on facebook and I have reported this to them however what information will they give me? Try not to let it get to you, as has been said, it goes on everywhere (even MSE gets its turn), the issue is resolved in as much as the offending message has been deleted, I would try and forget about it, and not react to it, as the offender would want you to at least "react".
Should it remain an issue, or a recurrence, or should the same person proceed to attack your FB, you report it and can request the FB team delete the users a\c.
Failing that, you would have to be dealing with it legally, via the police or courts, only they could ask those at FB, for further information.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Rise above the idiots who sent it to you. You have complained to FB so let them deal with it.
As has already been said, it shows they have nothing better to do with their spare time.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Haha, you'd have been as well to suggest "get a sense of humour and sense of priorities in life," Conor, it'd still have fallen on deaf ears.Russia is HERE0 -

Thanks everyone for your advice ... apart from Conor.
The message was not life threatning apart from the fact it could have had implications with my relationship which were sent with only malicious purposes.
If people send messages like this, that could have this affect on a persons personal life it makes me wonder if Facebook is worth the 'fun' I get out of it.
Conor I have a life, unlike you who come on an 'advice' messageboard with no worthwhile purpose. You need to look at yourself because it's ok sat on your PC giving it like you're something special whereas in real life you're probably a nobody who wouldn't think twice about saying something like that to me in person.
Merry Christmas to posters on MSE with constructive things to say0
