Friends new monitor

Panic phone call this morning. Friend had bought a new HP monitor. Plugged in, worked fine. Later in the day he booted up and the machine went into safe mode. he was prompted to go into monitor set up as the comp had recognised a new monitor. Went through the oprocedure as prompted yet it wouldn`t complete.

When he boots up now their is no display after the XP startup logo. Any ideas please?

Boot up in safe mode and right click Properties on the desktop, then the Settings tab and check that the correct screen resolution and refresh rate are set for the new monitor.

Thanks. He has just called me to say that he has just reloaded the operating system and all is working OK.
