sale of goods act faulty LG Plasma question?

Options
Hi

1st post and need some help with a complex question!

This morning our Plasma TV gave up the ghost

My partner got a "free" 42' LG plasma TV when she bought a kitchen from MFI 18 months ago.

Unfortunately she never had a warrany with it, the fault that has developed (no picture) seems a pretty common failure on this particular model, and therefore I believe there is grounds to say that it isn't of satifactory quality and hasn't lasted a ‘reasonable' length of time.

Now obviously I'll have no redress with MFI, does the sale of goods act cover the manufacturer?

Will I have any joy from LG? and if not could I successfully go to the small claims court over this.

On a more serious note not sure how our 4 year old is going to be when he wakes up to find there's no more Peppa Pig, bad timing and no spare cash to replace it :(

Cheers

Fred

Did you register the product with LG?

You have the right to goods of a satisfactory quality, and ultimately LG produce the goods. I would say they have the liability.

Is it over a year old? They may try to use that as an excuse. If it's close, I would just say it's 11 months old, they shouldn't know any different.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Did you buy with credit or credit card? if so their responsible if you have no joy with MFI
  • Thanks Mark, No it wasn't registered with LG at the time, I found the card in the manual, this morning!

It is over 12 months ago approx 18 months old I think.

Roddydogs, no it wasn't bought with a credit card, and the credit that was used was an advance on the mortgage.

I'd give LG a ring. call their bluff and say you think it's only 11 months old.

Also, have a search on the forum for Sale of Goods questions. There are some users here who I am almost positive have advised that goods older than 12 months, such as TV's, and other electrical items, have an implied warrenty of more than the 12 months that they are sold with.

I'd certainly expect my tv to last longer than 12 months.
