mortgage company searched my file three times?

We're trying to remortgage and I noticed on my credit report that C&G have searched three times, twice on December 5 and once on 17. Why would they search that many times, and is that counted as three separate searches? I'm wondering because I need to apply for a new BT card shortly and I'm worried abou tht enumber of searches on my report.

Thanks!

    Hi sarah6

Two searches would have been normal - one for the decision in principle, one for the application itself.
Not sure why two are showing on the same day unless your broker or yourself submitted the AIP twice by mistake.

I'd suggest giving C&G a call to clarify.

Unless you've done many other applications for credit though, I wouldn't forsee this causing you any problems for the card.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. I'm going through an IFA so I might mention it to them.

I disagree. One credit search is more than enough. I would write to C & G enlclosing a copy of your credit report that shows the multiple searches and ask that they contact the credit reference agency and authorise their removal. I often do this as some banks seem to search more than once when only one application was made. It can affect your credit score by leaving three searches there. Hope this helps.

maybe one is a full search and the other unrecorded?

Actually that is very true. If it says "application type" "unrecorded/identification/unrecorded enquiry" no other lender will see that. However if it mentions "application type" "credit enquiry/mortgage application/new business" or something similar, then that is a full credit search and I would push for it to be removed.
