Panasonic TH-37PX8

Hi

I have seen this TV at £339 and as I have been after a TV for a while, am looking at getting it. Does anyone have one as I know it is not full 1080p and is 720p and I am told that this makes a big difference. I will be using it for watching programmes, prob normal terrestrial and Freeview and DVDs. It seems a bargain for the price but sometimes a bargain is a bargain for a reason!

Thanks for all your help.

It is a good tv, ok, not full HD 1080 as you say, but have you or do you ntend to get a blu-ray player? PS3 or are you watching normal DVD's through it and like you say the normal channels.. If so, this tv is excellent.

If, however you intend to go blu-ray or PS3, then you need to look at a 1080 i/p type of tv like a lanasonic, toshiba or Sony which are the three best impo, but there are other slike LG and Samsung that follow thereafter...

It all depoends what you want it for and where your going...

I just acquired the Sony 350 blu-ray player for £160ish via Amazon and have to say the quality and screen has blown me away. Ok, also saved up all year for the Sony 4500w 40" screen too and that helps, but I dod a lot of research between that and the Toshiba/Panasonic, but we are talking £800-£900 tv's....

Look around, do your homework and have a budget and know what you want to do as we each have our opinions and you will get various answers... Happy hunting! :j

get the px80b if you want to get one - the contrast ration is much better and 3 hdmi sockets instead of 2 on the px8
  • This is a fantastic TV, especially if you are watching standard definition content. Even with blu ray you will still get a great image, much better than many 1080p screens. I too would love to know where is selling it at £339.

At that price snap it up. We have a TH37-PX80B and it is excellent but it was £580.

Even if you get a Blu-Ray player you don't need 1080p. You'll still get an excellent picture on a 720p/1080i set.

The HD Ready Panasonic plasmas are highlky regarded for their handling of SD pictures so if you'rewatching mostly SD they're an excellent choice.
It's my problem, it's my problem

Only if you're sitting closer than 6ft to it.

That's a great price for a great TV. At that size, you're not really going to notice much difference between 720p and 1080p, and it doesn't sound as though you'll be using anything that's capable of outputting 1080p anyway.

    Snap it up!
  • Thank you everyone for all your help! I thought that this looked such a bargain and am pleased that "experts" who have clearly done more homework than me agree. For those asking where: it was in the Next sale which we had a VIP slot for. I really want it as I said for DVDs and watching standard TV programmes. I don't use games machines and the prices haven't come down enough for me to justify getting a blu-ray yet. I have been looking casually for a new TV for a while but only at LCDs as the price of plasmas was still quite high. The only thing that concerned me was every man and his wife telling me that a new TV had to have 1080i. If it's not going to affect me then I'm not paying extra money for it!

Thanks again for all your help everyone.
