although having just read sme of the posts here, maybe I shouldn't have!! Just one query. I signed up for the "Lite" free weekend and evening calls. When I make a call locally do I use the area code or just dial the number. I omly ask because I use 1899 during the day and I have to dial the full area code then. Also, what constitutes "evening calls". is it between 6pm and 8am?

Just wanted to check something else. Just Dial have now confirmed that my calls with them will commence with them on 30 January. I currently use One Tel for weekend calls. Will Just Dial contact them to say I'm changing, do I do it, or do nothing at all?

Everthing is done automatic so use Justdial from the date they gave you.
I would check your call costs on a regular basis as they overcharge as has happened to me. They do give you credit once the mistake has been brought to their attention! Must say the mobile deal 20p for 20 mins off peak and 15p for 20 mins weekend is very good.

When I dial a local call with Just Dial, I assumed that I didn't have to dial the area code first. I accept that I have to do this for national calls. I emailed them about this and they said I did have to dial the code for a a local call. I'm confused now because with One Tel, I didn't need to use the area code for local calls. Could someone clarify this, as I don't think they understood the question?
  • Hansi you dont have to put an area code in for local calls.

  • As Just Dial is a CPS service, BT will insert the local area code at the exchange for local calls prior to passing the call to the Just Dial network.

This is true for all CPS services. If you use a Indirect Access service such as 1899 then you will need to check with them as some service providers have the ability to handle Local Area Dialling and some do not.

Thats because as soon as you hit the recorded announcement giving you the dialling instructions, you start paying for the call.So if you dont get through, hit voicemail, misdial destination number etc, a min call charge of approx 5p applies.

Using 1899, 18866 or 18185 is best to avoid such charges - they don't charge until you are connected to your end destination (although being 'answered' by an answering machine/service is connection).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I tend to agree with you but I have just received the following email in answer to my query.

Thank you for your recent email.

I can confirm that you need to dial area code before the destination number
when calling a local or national number.

If you have any further queries about your Just-Dial service, you can logon
    to our website on https://www.just-dial.com.

    Thank you for choosing Just-Dial.
  • All i can say Hansi is i NEVER put the area code in for local calls and everthing works fine for me! try it my way if it works then fine, if not insert the area code. But have never heard of a CPS provider insisting the area code be inserted for local calls!
