Right i have taken the top off the tap and undone the silver handle so the copper coloured unit is exposed, now i know the copper unit unscrews from the base exposing the washer but i cant seem to get the copper unit undone and im not to sure which way to turn it I assume its anti-clockwise?
Will it be better if i take the whole tape off? thanks in advance

You need to take the copper bit off, the washer is on the bottom of it, sounds like its just a bit stiff, what are you using to undo it?

Anti clockwise looking from the top of the tap.
You should be able to undo it without removing the tap but you may have to restrain the tap firmly to undo it.0
