Hi guys,

took my car today to a garage to get the airbag fitted and seat cover fitted and faults cleared, they had the car for approx two and a half hours. He said he could not clear the faults and didnt know why. I found that strange and it got me thinking.

I thought he robbed me and did not put new bag in and left old one in and put new cover on as he said when it was done, do i need a receipt? can i pay by cash so no vat etc? anyway he said "run it for a few days and the faults may clear" err i doubt it mate lol.

Got the car home tonight to find the radio is not working, i just have numbers on it, like 1000, im assuming i need my key code for this? did he disconnect battery?

Secondly the new airbag is in, but should you be able to unclip it and look inside? is this normal or should it be a tight sealed unit and only be able to unclip and clip together when it goes off? If so why can i unclip mine? has he perhaps broke it?

Finally i look under my seat and the airbag yellow connector is not even plugged in, no wonder he could not clear faults. Is there any reason why he would not plug it in? seems strange if u ask me.

Any advice please what to do

  • i dont really understand what the above post is all about

however if the seat belt pretensioner/air bag jobbie under the seat is unplugged, this will cause the light to come on

why were you having the air bag replaced, had it gone off?

the airbag went off in a collision yes, i replaced the tensioner and the airbag, but the yellow connector is not plugged in under the seat ? surely he would of done this and knew the fautls would clear?

secondly should the airbag unit be able to unclip so i can see the airbag inside and then close it back up.

Most MFR's advice to renew them every x number of years (is it about 10?!)

could you do this before the airbag went off in the first place? im guessing not.
take the car back and point these things out to the service manager and ask why these things were not done properly.

Sounds like pretty unaceptable service to me. No wonder they didn't want to give you a reciept, If you had a crash and the airbag failed, wihich it would have done, well........

Sounds like atrip to trading standards if you can't resolve this with the garage.

What sort of outfit did the work?
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
