Never been to Paris ,but i think its an early April fools joke"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

I live in the South of Ireland, but frequently travel North of the border and I love Belfast. It's easily my favourite city on the island of Ireland..
..and not just because of the exchange rate!

Come on folk... Don't knock it... I was in Belfast on Saturday and there was a great spirit in the place. Continental Market & St. Georges Market was great, not too busy... just a nice crowd.. Went out at night and the pubs were bunged and not a fight or scuffle in sight. (Maybe everyone was on best behaviour if their Bosses where out) I even managed to haggle down the price of my pint with one of the Bar staff... (Credit crunch and all that!!)
OK it's by no means perfect, but then where is??
You should have been out in Belfast the weekend before then! Something had happened at shaftesbury square and there was white tape across the road and traffic was being diverted! Me and a friend had gone for xmas dins and few drinks and at 1am the place was mad. This fella was walking up the street with no shirt on and a bloody nose:eek: It was absolutely freezing that nite :rotfl: This other guy was lying across a car outside laverys! This was my first nite out in belfast after 11 months! lol the joy of having kids!oooooooh i luv a bargain

It's an insult to Paris. Belfast isn't a patch on the city of love and, I dare say, never will be either. It doesn't have the architecture for a start.
Belfast certainly has come a long way but it still has some way to go before it'll offer a proper rival to other top European cities.0 -
i think they were saying that belfast is once again restoring itself to the accolade it once held in 19th century as Paris of the north. don't really think paris will be insulted.MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110

Bigcammy - Fantastic link - how quickly we forget and how easily we condemn. Thank You
To everyone else - give it a chance and don't talk it down. People who live in Venice, Rome and Paris don't see why so many tourists visit there, but they still encourage it and take the tourists Euros.
I am not saying we have the beauty of all these cities but we must have something - all these tourists can't be wrong.
I have visited cities with a lot less to offer than Belfast and they are filled with tourists, eager to see "what else there is"
Rant over - Merry Xmas0 -

I agree a great link...which sorta goes to prove the absolute chasm between Belfast and the City of Light.
Yes of course it was when the region/city was at its lowest ebb, things have changed, but I think even mentioning Belfast on the same page as Paris is just taking it a tincy wincy bit far!0 -
My God. How dark and miserable Belfast was. It certainly has come on leaps and bounds but still has a long way to go. Its getting there slowly but surely. If you want to see just how far Belfast has come, watch this news story from 1978 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7792046.stm
Well worth watching in my opinion.0
