  • Come on folk... Don't knock it... I was in Belfast on Saturday and there was a great spirit in the place. Continental Market & St. Georges Market was great, not too busy... just a nice crowd.. Went out at night and the pubs were bunged and not a fight or scuffle in sight. (Maybe everyone was on best behaviour if their Bosses where out) I even managed to haggle down the price of my pint with one of the Bar staff... (Credit crunch and all that!!)

OK it's by no means perfect, but then where is??

I find it hard to believe we are in the top 10 when we throw everyone out onto the streets at 1am and provide little or no late night venues/entertainment and enough taxis to meet the demand anywhere in Europe or the UK mainland are miles ahead of us. We are so far behind - its time to catch up!
  • i think we should be really proud of Belfast. everything is within walking distance and there is loads to see and do. shame on you all!!

There were figures published a few months back and for a weekend break, Belfast was the number one destination in Europe! Mt OH had business clients coming over from England and they had to stay at the hotel at the international airport as EVERY hotel in belfast was fully booked!

Yeh it has it down sides, every city does!! But it has come a long way and un like years ago, a lot of peolpe are now proud to say they come from Belfast!

  • As far as haggling over the pint... A case of right place.. right time.. Bar man had pulled a pint too many for a customer and so I told him I'd have it but as it was technically "Second Hand" i'd be expecting a discount... Must have seen the funny side... it worked...

Of out to Belfast tonight again... Looking forward to it...

I love Belfast, have lived here all my life and I'm very proud of it. I live at the foot of the Cavehill and you never see the same view twice, its absolutely beautiful.
As for St Georges Market - it opened today, tbh it was about a quarter of the stalls but it was empty, absolute heaven to be able to get friut and veg 2 days before Christmas without there being a scrum over sprouts!

If you want to see just how far Belfast has come, watch this news story from 1978 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7792046.stm

Well worth watching in my opinion.
