Fuel consumption is appalling for a light 2 seater car. Smart claim 60+mpg for their little cars but there are plenty of people griping in Smart forums that they can't beat 40mpg.

Build quality on the latest model is much improved over the Mk1, servicing is fixed price so isn't that bad considering it's at a Merc dealer. But I find most Merc dealers pretty dire in the South East.

merc dealers seem to be poor across the board. ive had a few unhelpful experiences with them.
they do seem to fair pretty well in crash tests.

  • I've driven them a few times - can be lots of fun as they go round cornerslike go-carts!

the semi automatic gear box takes a bit of getting used to

however, i'd say they are more suited for about town than long trips on the motorway, the one time i've taken one on the motorway it was quite interesting (fast enough but it was crabbing along as the wheels weren't quite as wide as teh groves left by the hgvs in the surface)
