I have recently moved my phone from BT to Virgin. I have an Orchid dialler which I used with BT ( 1899, 18855 etc) My question is, is the orchid dialler redundant now I am with Virgin or can it still be used in someway? At the moment it is unplugged. Many thanks

Sorry, cable0

Perhaps it can be used to place certain calls through http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php via their freephone access number to get cheaper calls depending on what Virgin Call Package you are on.0

Sorry, cable
Anyway, you obviously know you've moved to the most expensive telephone company in the UK but, in an attempt to alleviate that, I'd be happy to suggest some programming for your Orchid LCR if you'll just tell me how much VM are going to charge you for:
(1). Non-inclusive UK 01/02/03 calls;
(2). 0845 calls;
(3). 0870 calls;
(4). 07 (UK mobile) calls.
You're on your own for international calls though - there are just too many countries to make recommendations.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Heinz, thanks for your help (again), I took the phone as it was the only way I could get a better deal on my current tv and broadband. I added the all landline inclusive package for an extra £5 a month. Previously I was paying BT line rental plus more calls - so hopefully full package isn't too bad.
Anyway
(1). Non-inclusive UK 01/02/03 calls;
All included on the XL package
(2). 0845 calls;
I believe these are charged at 7p/min at all times ( plus 7p connection)
(3). 0870 calls;
10p per minute
(4). 07 (UK mobile) calls.
I can't find the costs for this, but will try use my mobile and free mins as much as possible
Main country for International would be USA0 -
Virgin Media Cable Call Tariffs can be found here: http://allyours.virginmedia.com/pdf/001364%20Residential%20tariffs.pdf?december08
It will be cheaper to place ngn ,mobile, and intl calls via 18185 Freephone Access No,then to use VM phone service direct.0 -
Good grief, I've just checked that link and see they charge 10p, not 7p, connection on those excessive 0845 and 0870 call costs.
Their charges for calling mobiles are laughable. I think you'll be programming 08081703703 as a prefix for youn 0845, 0870 and 07 calls.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I see Virgin charge nearly 27p peak and nearly 20p offpeak per minute to call 3 mobile numbers.What a rip off.0

So use 18185 for all calls that aren't free, using the 0808 number.
I just need to try and remember how to program the dialer as I've been using the heinz program for a while0
