You need to ring your bank ASAP and tell them this transaction was not authorised by you. They'll have an investigation process that you'll need to start (each bank is slightly different).

It may just be an error that needs pointing out or it may be that somebody has fraduently accessed your account. Either way, you'll get the money back - you just need to ring them and start the process. As soon as you can!

As for whether they should have questioned it - if it was done through your online banking access, they will assume it's you as the security questions should have been answered correctly. Do you keep your details completely safe?

Abbey were very good about it.

Strange that your bank did not detect this as unusual activity. My bank ring me up for every now and then to verify some payments. Hope you get your money back soon!

We had this happen to our Abbey business account. The bank rang us to verify the payment as it was to the USA. Our account was frozen to stop further money being taken out and our cards cancelled. We were given electron cards for 3 months which were a pain as some suppliers wouldn't accept them.

I have carried out online transactions with a number of banks of amounts up to about thirty thousand (although in some cases these are limited to ten thousand) and never had it queried, so I guess it is not common practice to query a transaction of six thousand (although my wife and brother with Co-op find that they do).
  • Just to double safe - recheck your PC security -run a scan for spyware or trojans on your PC......just in case there's something lurking on your PC.

And never never respond to any emails asking about account details or passwords - "Phishing".....your real bank would not ask for these.
