Buying new (used)car - better with/without part-ex

As title says, we are going to buy another car - budget around £5k, hoping to get a Ford Focus.

We currently have an R reg Fiesta 1.25 around 80k miles.

My dad thinks we are better off not part-ex the Fiesta and will get more of a bargain without.

Anyone have an opinion?

Car dealers aren't selling what they've got so they're most likely to offer rock bottom trade in unless it's one of these "minimum trade in" places.

Agreed, sell the Fiesta privately, dealers really do not want any further stock at the moment.

depends if you want the hassle of selling the fiesta yourself
if it is a tidy little car with a good mot then it will probably sell easily as they are quite sort after as runabouts
also depends on how desperate the dealer is to do a deal
i rang up about a car two days ago and it sold within 1 day of being advertised some cars are sort after and some not
what spec of focus are you after

thanks all - the fiesta is a great car, no hassle at all but does need MOT mid Jan.

For the Focus, would probably like a 1.6 mid range (don't need high-spec)

you should get a nice focus for 5k might even get you an 06 car
i would look at something up for 5k and chop the fiesta in and 4500 cash
or 5k and a bit of money off then sell the fiesta private but you will need to put a new mot on it or nobody will touch it unless silly money

The Fiesta isn't of any real value, so it'll be more hassle to a dealer, ratrher than another source of profit, if he were to sell on again.

You'll only be offered minimum £$£$, or if they made a GENEROUS offer, it means this 'xtra' £$£ is 'cos his Focus is too dear!!

Assuming the Fiesta doesn't need a fortune spending on MOT, e bay, or small ads are the easiest way to move it on.

Don't get caught up in lots adverts, though, else you'll end up paying out just to get your £$£$ back!!
