no sound - not even a volume control win xp

hi - we were recently given a pc with windows xp on it - the only problem is there no sound! i have plug in speakers , i went to the accessories folder where volume control usually is but when i click it it says no mixer devices are installed and in the control panel it says there are no drivers installed??? ? help please?????

  • if the pc is a homebuilt one then download CPU-Z and check the mainboard tab, which will give a manufacturer and model number and we'll find the drivers for you :)
