Which my bank have just rung to tell me about. I'm wondering
a) how they got my card details
b) why use it in such an obviously suspicious way?

It's the card we use just for housekeeping, all the groceries & petrol go on it, but nothing else. It only gets used on t'internet once a year, for our xmas Sainsbury's online order, otherwise, I put it in the cardreader myself in the supermarket/petrol station.

Has this happened to anyone else?

They are sending new cards today. Fortunately don't really need it now this week, all food now on-board. I think we've probably got more in stock than our local Spar.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Small amounts are used to test the card, although why they've used it 100 times is confusing to me.

As to how they've got your details, thats a bit of a very open ended question. It could be a multitude of reasons.

Petrol stations seem to be a favourite place for fraud to take place but you'll probably never find out the source of the problem.

as to why they used it in that way, I would suspect it was probably a mistake on their behalf.

Petrol stations are the most obvious, I use cash at all filling stations, I wouldn't trust any of them.

I got done at a petrol station (luckily nothing was spent) and my work colleague lost over £800 after a trip to a petrol station. Either use a "pay at pump" or pay in cash.

So the staff put skimmers on the card readers then? I always use the card-reader myself, I don't hand the card over.

Pay at pump means you don't get loyalty points, and I don't tend to carry cash (I'm disabled, and consider myself vulnerable to handbag snatch or getting clonked when using a cash-point).

How did you know your card had been done then?

Hi Easy, sorry I never answered your question. I went to pay for some petrol at a different garage and my card was refused. Ultra embarrassing as I didn't have a penny of cash on me. The next day I went into the bank and they told me my card had been stopped as its details had been found "in a shop" but wouldn't say where.

I have a Morrissons loyalty card, and yes I get the points at the pump. If you haven't got the card handy, you just take the receipt into the shop at a later date and they will credit the card.

If you pay at pump with Tesco, just put your clubcard in first and you do earn points.
