What's this about?

There's a great little website that raises funds for charity - helping children and families worldwide tackle poverty and injustice - by getting its sponsors to make a donation for every visitor it gets. But you've got to play a game to raise the cash.

Simply go to AIDtoCHILDREN and a word with four possible meanings will appear. Select the correct definition, which increases in difficulty as the levels progress, and 0.25 (Canadian) cents - around 0.15p - will be donated to World Vision.

This is a very similar concept to FreeRice.com and The Hungersite (read the full Feed The Starving At No Cost To You guide on how both these sites work) which are regularly featured in the weekly e-mail.

Will it really help people?

25 cents - 100 correct answers - is enough to provide a child with a meal. Of course everyone's knowledge will be different, but some people will be able to knock that up in spending just 10 minutes playing the game. And you may learn some new words to boot!
Each user can raise a maximum of $1 a day by answering 400 questions. The limit's been put in place to prevent web bots from attacking the site, but there's no cap to the number of people who can rack up cash each day, nor is there a daily total cap for how much that can be accumulated.

Who pays for the donated cash?

The cash is paid by advertisers that have banners which appear at the bottom of the page. It's basically an advertising site where the profit is donated to charities.

Is it legit?

The site is totally legit, we've checked with World Vision and it has confirmed that AIDtoCHILDREN is raising funds for it. There is no political, religious or corporate affiliation.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
There's a few bugs (a couple of times it told me the 'correct' answer was a choice that wasn't one of the four options), but it's quite fun anyway. It doesn't bother me that it's a Christian charity, either - I figure a good cause is a good cause!
Back after a very long break!
  • This will be good for me as I cannot afford my rent and I would love to help out charities, but at the mo I cannot afford to donate or volunteer. I have to take money where I can get it so if I can do something like this I will be a little happier in my day to day life if I know I can benefit someone!:T

  • These sites could possibly add more games! More ad revenue and more for charity! possibly sodokus and match three games too! So we could go along an play a variety of games and they may get more players. A bit like the Big Fish Games communtiy which I play a lot, they have loads of ads more due to a load more games! I'd be willing to play at a charity site instead.

As an atheist who does not like their core religious values I have to say I completely agree with you. I certainly wouldn't deprive needy people because I disliked the principles of the people distributing the help.
  • Well I'm not a religious person but I think that whoever can arrange for a child to have a meal just because I answered a few questions, through that childs eyes that giver of food may seem like god. I've just answered enough questions to feed 2 children and I will go back and do the same again when I can. :)
