then download MalwareBytes, update and scan...delete anything it finds.

How long since you ran CCleaner, did a disk cleanup and defrag ??

Ive found it slows down slow processor computers (under 2 Ghz say) when browsing using firefox etc

Make sure you UPDATE and FULL SCAN with malwarebytes as Jack requested

I'd follow these steps:

1. Run CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com
2. Run an anti-virus scan: http://www.free-av.com/
3. Run an anti-spyware scan: http://www.superantispyware.com/
4, Run an anti-malware scan and post a log back here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
5. Check the VRAM settings i.e.:

- Click Start, then open the Control Panel.
- Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Performance, click Settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual memory, click Change.
- Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. In almost every case, this will be your C: drive.
- Click to select the "System managed size" option, then click Set.
- Click OK three times and restart your computer.

6. Run a windows update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
7. Go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and uninstall anything not needed.
8. Run a defrag
9. Investigate msconfig http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Also, go into task manager and see how much CPU useage there is and what processes are running to hog the CPU...
