hi,
my laptop keeps freezing and therefore i have to turn it off and back on by the power button.
it does this while i am just browsing the internet or even playing a game while disconnected from the internet.
i thought it could be to do with overheating but i have purchased a cooling pad and its still doing it.
i have also checked for spyware, ran anti-virus and even checked all the processes running in the background and closed the ones that aint needed.
have any of you got any ideas what this could be to do with?
thanks
andy

What kind of laptop do you have? How much RAM does it have? What OS are you using? What kind of games/applications are you using?
Not having enough memory to support your applications or games is one of the most common causes of freezing.
Try downloading Startup Inspector (or use the startup function in Microsoft Anti-Spyware) to disable all non-essential startup programs completely.
If you can't get to the root of the problem then the best thing to do is backup all your data and do a full reinstallation of your OS. If it keeps freezing, then it's 99% sure that you have a hardware problem.0 -

It still could be - if the insides are caked with dust etc. I had a recommendation (from work) to get a can of compressed air to spray through the fan intake etc (best to do outside - unless you like vacuuming lol) though I used the moneysaving alternative of a drinking straw and a bloomin' good blow.
It could be that you have a faulty RAM chip, or a motheboard fault that's developed - short of obtaining another RAM chip to try and another PC to try your RAM in, I can't think of a method to eliminate either as a causeThere are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -

Give it the onceover patch wise. and check to see if there are any driver updates available on the manufacturers website. Reseat the ram.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
in my experience freezing like this often means a faulty graphics card. I hope you dont have onboard graphics.0
