  • I haven't worked my way through my Whiskey bottle yet.

Will do that once my daughter wakes up and will report back how much i've got.

Sorry to go off thread a little bit but I recall reading something about the amount of money that is lost down sofas etc etc. I often see old sofas and chairs set for the tip, wonder how much would be lying around inside them. Could always go out at dark and have a rifle through...:o

    This is so true!!

When I was at uni, one of our friends lost her car keys. We eventually found them down the side of one of the cushions on the sofa. We dug a bit deeper and also looked down the sides of two armchairs and the stuff we came up was unbelievable.

We'd only been living in the house for about 1 month, so none of it was ours, but we found just over £12, a TV remote (not ours! But, I can't believe the previous people didn't notice it missing!), a CD, two dried up highlighter pens and a receipt from Lidl from October 2001 (it was October 2004 when we found it!).

We put the £12 towards a house meal and threw the rest away.

It's bit gross really when you think about it, but being a student house, perhaps not surprising!!!

I put all my £2 coins in a little pot and put them in the bank about every 3 months. I dont miss the £2's so its a nice little bonus.

  • I save my 1p, 2p and 5p coins in a jar and go to the bank once I have a few bags.

I also "sweep" uneven amounts from my accounts each month.

A small change full oversize whisky bottle was how my lovely doggy was bought 4 years ago! £250 well spent on the smasher!

Luckily I can change mine at work now, it used to be a nightmare at the bank!

I've been saving my change for over 25 years, ever since my gran gave me her piggy bank change when I was a nipper. It amazes me how much you can save over a year.

We have a large whiskey bottle (it's huge! have no idea where OH got it from:confused: ) where we put all loose change (anything under £1) then use the Coinstar machine & split savings between kids savings accounts! It is amazing what you an save without noticing it!

My parents save all their 20p coins & split between their 4 grandchildren - the kids have £100s in their accounts!!!!

We've also started the £2 coin saving - only £10 so far though!

Love the idea of transferring uneven balance to savings account when checking internet banking!!!!! Will definately start this in February, when our piggybank accounts are all up & running and we're sticking to our new budget!!!!!
